Cable entry frames blue
Food and pharmaceutical producers must comply with hygienic standards. Pet food manufacturers and animal feed producers are also responsible for hygienic production and processing. The design of icotek's cable entry frames and grommets adheres to EHEDG guidelines and basic principles for hygienic design. Once installed, icotek products remain firmly in place. If they do become dislodged, their blue colour is easily spotted among, for example, food products. As these frames and grommets have virtually no seams or crevices, dirt has little chance to adhere. The icotek cable entry system KEL-ER-BL, in combination with KT-BL, is specifically aimed at zone 3 or the 'non-food area' of food producers.

Using cable entry frames and grommets
With a cable entry system, you manage the cables of machines. At CC Nederland, you will find various cable entry systems from the German icotek. The icotek cable entry system KEL-ER-BL in combination with KT-BL is modularly designed with grommets. You can choose different grommets depending on the situation. These grommets meet the international standard for industrial cable sizes.
First, select the desired size of the cable entry frame and then choose the grommets you need.
Benefits of the icotek KEL-ER-BL and KT-BL cable entry system
The modular design allows multiple cables to pass through the entry in a compact way. The frame is detachable, which makes replacing or maintaining the cables easier.
Other advantages of this icotek cable entry system:
- Blue signal colour;
- Water and dust resistant up to IP65;
- High stability and resistance to vibrations;
- Preservation of factory warranty on installed cables;
- Integrated strain relief according to EN 62444;
- More cost-effective than fully stainless steel systems and stainless steel cable glands.
EHEDG guidelines
EHEDG stands for European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group and is a guideline for production machines and equipment within the food industry. The guideline notes, among other things, that no particles from the machine or equipment should enter the food. On the other hand, moisture or food residues should not accumulate in the seams or crevices of the machine or equipment. The icotek cable entry systems are equipped with a blue signal colour, making them easier to spot among food items. With standard cable entry systems, food and moisture residues easily linger in corners and crevices. The icotek systems have surfaces as flat as possible, making cleaning easier and the system stays cleaner.
Different zones in the food industry
The food sector uses three zones, namely: the 'food', 'the splash', and the 'non-food area'. Each zone has specific requirements for the use of components such as cable entry systems.
Zone 1: Food area
These are the surfaces of machines that come into direct contact with the food. This also includes parts that may indirectly contact the food, for example, when condensation occurs at warm temperatures. Practically, this means that everything directly above the food also falls within this food zone.
Product advice: Zone 1 must comply with: EHEDG certification, adherence to EHEDG construction guidelines, and IP69K. Although it is unusual for cables to be used in this zone, icotek products are unsuitable for this food zone.
Zone 2: Splash area
Zone 2 is the space where surfaces potentially come into contact with food through splashing or overflowing. Unlike zone 1, the food does not return to the regular production line and thus to the food products that eventually leave the production area.
Product advice: Despite the blue signal colour and other hygienic measures in the KEL-ER-BL entry systems and KT-BL grommets, these are officially unsuitable for this zone. Icotek products with hygienic design, KEL-DPU-HD & KEL-DPZ-HD, are suitable for this application.
Zone 3: Non-food area
The non-food area includes all spaces and surfaces outside the aforementioned areas.
Product advice: For these spaces, we recommend the icotek KEL-ER-BL entry systems and KT-BL grommets.
